Capitanich postpones Senate briefing ahead of debt deadline

Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich has postponed until August 6 a Senate briefing scheduled for Wednesday, the day in which Argentina must pay debt obligations with investors currently blocked from receiving funds by New York judge Thomas Griesa.

Government sources informed that the minister will address senators next week, due to the fact that crucial information could arise in ongoing negotiations with holdout investors.

July 30 marks the end of thegrace period during which Argentina must pay bondholders that entered debt restructuring in 2005 and 2010. The country has deposited the necessary funds for the servicing, but Griesa has refused New York's Mellon Bank permission to hand out the payment to creditors.

The date could also include an act headed by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to mark the payment of the first installment of a deal struck with the Paris Club group of creditors, worth 650 million dollars.
